Advice that ends with something written down

Larissa Dorleto USA is an independent consulting practice. Work begins with the problem stated in plain words and ends with a document you can hand to anyone on your side: what to do, in what order, and how you will know it is done.

What the practice covers

Four kinds of work, all of them ending in a document rather than a conversation that nobody can repeat later.

Framing the problem

Before anything is planned, the question itself is written down: what is actually happening, what is only assumed, and which of the two the work has to settle first.

A plan with owners and order

Steps in the sequence they have to happen, each with a named owner and a plain description of what finished looks like, so progress is a fact and not an opinion.

Writing down how it is done

A routine that currently lives in one person's head becomes a short procedure that somebody new can follow, including the exceptions that nobody thinks to mention.

Keeping a plan moving

Agendas, follow-up and a written record of decisions, so a plan that was agreed in one month is still the plan being worked on in the next.

How the work runs

The same four stages whether the piece of work lasts a week or a quarter. Only the length of each one changes.

  1. Enquiry

You describe the situation in your own words through the request page. There is no charge for this exchange and no obligation to go further.

  2. Scope in writing

You receive a short written scope: the question to be answered, what will be delivered, what falls outside, and the time and price to do it. Nothing starts until that scope is accepted.

  3. The work itself

Reading, interviews with the people who do the job, and drafting. Partial drafts are shared as they exist, so corrections happen early rather than at the end.

  4. Hand-over

The final document is handed over and walked through once, with open points listed honestly as open rather than dressed up as conclusions.

Working arrangements

The practical side, stated here so it does not have to be asked.

How it is run
As an independent, one-person practice. The person you speak with is the person who does the work.
Language
English, in writing. Calls are scheduled when a conversation is faster than a document, and the outcome is written up afterwards.
Where the work happens
Remotely. Material is exchanged by email, and meetings are arranged by appointment.
Scope and price
Agreed in writing before any work begins. If the scope changes along the way, it is rewritten and agreed again.
Confidentiality
Anything shared is used only for the agreed work and is not passed on or published.
Payment
Nothing is sold or paid for on this website. Invoicing is arranged directly, after a scope has been accepted.

Questions that come up first

If yours is not here, the request page is the place to ask it.

How small can a piece of work be?

Small is fine. Reading one plan and marking what is unclear is a complete piece of work, and it is often the sensible way to start before anything larger is agreed.

Can you work from a plan that already exists?

Yes. An existing plan is read as written, with the gaps, the unnamed owners and the steps that depend on something nobody has started marked in the margin.

What arrives at the end?

A written document, in English, that belongs to you: the question, what was found, the steps in order with owners, and the points that are still open.

How long does a reply take?

Enquiries are answered by email, in writing. Each one is read by the same person who would do the work, so replies arrive one at a time rather than automatically.

Have something that needs writing down?

Describe the situation in a few lines and say what a good outcome would look like. You receive a written scope, not a sales call.
